Grammar

PRESENT PERFECT TENSE AND PAST INDEFINITE TENSE

Read and compare

PAST SIMPLE TENSE

Вказує на дію, яка відбувалась в минулому, часто із зазначенням часу

e.g. I went to Paris in 1996.

I visited St. Sophia's Cathedral last summer.

PRESENT PERFECT TENSE

Вказує на дію, яка, хоча і почалась в минулому, але має зв'язок з теперішнім (завершилась або продовжує тривати і впливає на теперішню ситуацію.

e.g. She has been to London already. (And she can tell about the city.)

T: And now I suggest you practise a little bit. Let's do the following. I will read you some sentences and your task is to distinguish if they are used in Past Simple or in Pr. Perfect. If they belong to Past Simple, you have to stand at the blackboard, if the sentence is used in Present Perfect you have to stand at the bookcase. Be very attentive and careful.

My brother (has finished/finished) school last year.

His sister (didn't finish/ hasn't finished) school yet.

I (haven't seen/didn't see) Tom today.

They (have never studied/ didn't study) Spanish before.

T: The next task will be for the whole team. I give you the list of sentences which are used in PP or Past Simple. The winner will be that team which can do the task as accurately as possible. After finishing you are to read the whole text loudly.

(Pupils do the task in 5 min.)

Physical Activities.

T: And at the end of the lesson I want you do the following task. We've listened to the text about Easter traditions. I suggest you get your team Easter baskets ready for going to the church. Remember everything you've heard in the text. Be ready to speak about the things you have put into the baskets.

The 1st team:

Our task was to make Easter baskets. Ukrainians cook an Easter cake. In our village it is called "paska". So we put it here. Ukrainian people paint eggs beautifully. We call them krashankas and pysankas. That's why we put these painted eggs into our basket too. When we go to the church we also put some sausages, and some ham into our baskets. So as the result of this we have a paska, krashankas, some sausages, some ham in our basket.

The 2nd team:

Our Easter basket has paskas, pysankas and krashankas, some sausages and some ham too. But we also have a carton of juice, some apples, cucumbers, some lard and some radish. Usually adults put a bottle of vine into their baskets. We cover our basket with a towel.

T: Thank you very much for your participation. You were very active and clever. Your marks are…. Write down your home task.

Learn the rules at p. 224 and p. 263

And the last minutes of our lesson let's devote to our Easter song.

(Pupils stand and sing the Easter song using their Easter baskets)

MY EASTER BASKET

"I have a basket, it's for Easter.

What's in the basket? Please tell me."

"Paska, babka, cheese and butter.

Ham, horseradish and kovbasa.

With some onions and beet radish,

A painted egg and coloured ones.

And an Easter Egg!

We are going to light a candle,

Go to church and have it blessed,

And together we'll all sing out.

Christ is Risen!

Indeed He has Risen!

T: So, our lesson is over. See you next time. Have a rest.
