«Все о Лондоне»

Цели викторины:

образовательные:

• обобщение знаний по теме: «Великобритания»

• совершенствование языковых и речевых навыков и умений обучающихся в процессе подготовки к уроку-викторине;

• стимулирование в целом интеллектуальной и языковой активности обучающихся;

• способствование практическому владению всеми видами речевой деятельности.

развивающие:

• развитие мотивации к изучению английского языка;

• развитие межпредметной связи (с географией, литературой, историей);

• развитие творческих способностей, познавательный интерес, инициативу в осуществлении иноязычной речевой деятельности;

• расширение общего кругозора обучающихся (социокультурный уровень);

воспитательные:

• воспитание у обучающихся стремления к изучению английского языка;

• воспитание уважения к мнению товарищей и ответственности за качество выполнения домашнего задания (драматизация диалога на заданную тему);

• повышение культурного уровня обучающихся;

• развитие навыка работы в команде.

Задачи:

• Обобщить лексический материал, изученный по теме Лондон.

• Совершенствовать и контролировать умения и навыки практического владения английским языком по данной теме по таким видам речевой деятельности как: говорение, чтение и письмо.

• Стимулировать желание учащихся высказываться на английском языке.

Оснащение: доска, раздаточный материал, презентация.

Ход викторны:

1. Организационный момент:

Teacher: Glad to meet you, dear boys, guests and teachers! Today we are having a competition: "Everything about London". We will summarize all you know about London. And at the end of our lesson the winners will receive a credit. I hope you'll enjoy our English lesson. Please, be active and friendly to each other. There are two teams:

First team: "The United Kingdom"

Second team: "Great Britain"

Teacher: Let's start our competition.

• The first task: In 5 min. you have to match the name of the places of interest with its description.

The Natural Museum

It is situated in Kensington and is one of London's greatest museums. There is a huge collection of animals and plants, including a quarter of a million butterflies, a blue whale and the famous dinosaur skeletons.

The Waxworks Madame Tussaunds Museum

It has the models of famous people from pop stars to prime ministers, displays of battles and a Chamber of Horror.

The British Museum

It is the biggest museum in London. The museum is famous for its library -one of the richest in the world.

Stonehenge

It is a prehistoric monument, presumably built by Druids, members of an order of priests in ancient Britain.

First team:

London is the capital of Great Britain. More than six million people live in London. London lies on both banks of the river Thames. It is the largest city in Europe and one of the largest cities in the world.

London is not only the capital of the country, it is also a very big port, one of the greatest commercial centres in the world, a university city, and the seat of the government of Great Britain.

The most important parts of London are: the City, the West End, the East End and Westminster.

The City is the busiest part of London. People do business there. Only about ten thousand people live there.

Second team:

The West End is the richest part of London. You can find the best shops, theatres, cinemas, museums, fine parks and squares there. Its houses and streets are the finest in the capital. The rich people live in the West End.

The East End is the part of London where working people live. It is not so rich as other parts of London and there are fewer parks there.

Westminster Abbey is one of the most beautiful buildings in London. There are many monuments of great men there. Many great English scientists lie buried there; among them Newton, Darwin and Watt. In the Poets' Corner some of the famous English poets and writers are buried.

• I've just come back from London. London is the capital of Great Britain, its political, economic and cultural centre. It's one of the largest cities in the world. Its population is more than million people. London is situated on the river Thames. The city is very old and beautiful. It was founded more than two thousand years ago. Traditionally London is divided into several parts: the City, the West End, the East End and Westminster.

• I've heard Hide Park is the London's largest and most fashionable park. It was once a royal hunting forest.

• That's great!

• Yesterday I watched TV and heard that Number 10, Downing Street has been the home of the British Prime Minister since 1735. The official name of the Houses of Parliament is the Palace of Westminster. At the north end of the building, by Westminster Bridge, there is the famous clock tower, Big Ben. In fact Big Ben is really the name of the bell in the tower, not of the clock.

• Fancy that! One day I wish to go to London too!
