Our theme names: «A visit to Scotland»

I want to draw your attention to the slide where the quotation from John Clark is written: "He that travels far knows much"

This quotation will be the motto of our lesson.

We are travelling to Scotland.

Не who has not seen Scotland does not really know Great Britain.

Scotland is a country with the deep national traditions. Scotland is a part of England but Scotland is not England.

Scotland has its own national drink, national musical instruments, national dances, songs, poetry, traditions, food and sports, even education and manners.

A song "My Bonnie"

Who was this song dedicated to?

( At the begining of the 18-th century Scotland lost its political independence.

But the Scots were proud, independent people and they fought for the independence of their country. Prince Charles Edward Stewart, who was known as Bonnie Prince Charlie (Красавчик принц Чарли), fought against the English in the 18-th century trying to make Scotland independent. But Charlie`s army was defeated. Charlie was Scotland national hero and people dedicated him a song.)

  1. Dialogue (Thistle)

  2. What are you reading about?

-It's about the customs and traditions of the United Kingdom.

-Is there anything interesting about Scotland?

-To my mind the most exciting is about the thistle.

-Really?

-Don't you know that thistle is the national emblem of Scotland?

I think everybody know this. But I don't remember the legend. Would you tell it?

Certainly, with pleasure. Listen. "In very ancient times the Notsemen landed on the east of Scotland. They wanted to settle in the country. Scots waited for the enemy behind the river Tay, the largest river in Scotland. As they arrived late, they didn't expect the enemy before the next day. The Norsemen were near. They crossed the Tay, intending to take Scots by surprise in their sleep. For this, they took off their shoes so as to make the least noise possible. But one of the Norsemen stepped on the thistle. He cried of sharp pain. The alarm was given. The Norsemen were put to fight. For this help the Scots made thistle their national emblem".

It's too good to be true.

God knows.

Robert Burns

My love is like red, red rose

That's newly sprung in June

My love is like the melodie

That's sweetly play'd in tune

So fair art thou, my bonnie lass,

So deep in love am I:

And I will love thee still, my dear,

Till the seas gang dry.

Till the seas gang dry, my dear,

And the rocks melt wi' the sun:

И скалы не растают на солнце.

Пока гранитная скала

Не тает в летний зной

And I will love thee still, my dear,

While the sands o' life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only love,

And fare thee weel awhile!

And I will come again, my love,

Tho' it were ten thousand mile

(Love in the guise of friendship).

Your friendship much can make me blest,

O, why that bliss destroy!

Why urge the only one request!

You know I will deny.

Your thought, if love must harbour there,

Conceal it in that thought;

Not cause me from my bosom tear

The very friend I sought.

My heart's in the Highlands, my heart is
not here;
My heart's in the Highlands, a-chasing the
deer;
Chasing the wild deer, and following the
roe -
My heart's in the Highlands wherever I go,
Farewell to the Highlands, farewell to the north!
The birth - place of valour, the country of
worth :
Wherever I wonder, wherever I rove,
The hills of the Highlands forever I love.
Farewell to the mountains high cover'd with
snow,.
Farewell to the straths and green valleys
below,.
Farewell to the forests and wild-hanging
woods
Farewell to the torrents and loud - pouring
My heart's in the Highlands, my heart is
not here;
My heart's in the Highlands, a.-chasing the
deer;
Chasing the wild deer, and following the
roe -
My heart's in the Highlands wherever I go.
