Introduction

In Russian language there are a lot of proverbs and sayings that indicate how much can clothes "say" and how important it is that you're wearing. One of the most famous is "Clothes make the man".

Nowadays it's modern that many companies put the dress or the so-called dress code. Many clubs (for example, Golf clubs in Britain) have special symbols on t-shirts. And in our school we have special rules regarding uniforms. The preference is given to the business style clothing. In spite of this, often in the wardrobe , both boys and girls can find such a thing as a t-shirt. Most of all we can see different kinds of labels on it. The label is one of the most current fashion trends. Recently it is modern to wear T-shirts with English inscriptions. Do the owners of things understand the meaning of the label on their clothes, especially if they are written in a foreign, often in English? In our research paper we are going to find an answer on this question.

We think that this topic is relevant because youth wardrobe is full of the clothes with English inscriptions. Fashion t-shirt with a print on foreign, mostly English, is becoming increasingly popular. But a lot of students do not attach much attention to the labels on their clothing, which may contain obscene or offensive meaning, grammar and spelling mistakes that may destroy the true culture of a person.

The novelty of our work is in fact that it is the first time in our school when we held a similar research, which may increase students ' interest in English labels' translations on their clothes. We suppose that it will make them think about the choice of clothes to school.

The object of our research paper are inscriptions in English on students' clothes.
The subject is that information which labels have on students' clothes.

Taking everything into consideration and to find an answer on our question the aim of our research paper is to establish whether the meaning of the labels on the clothes of the level of English language proficiency. To carry this aim into effect it is necessary to solve the following tasks:

1. To study published and Internet resources and find some facts from the history of labels on clothes.

2. To collect a certain number of labels on students' clothes. (70)

3. To translate labels into Russian language.

4. To classify the labels.

5. To conduct the survey.

6. To come to a definitive conclusion.

7. To make recommendations on choosing clothes with English labels.

To achieve these tasks we used the following methods.

1. Studying published and Internet resources

2. Comparing and analyzing the information.

We think that this research paper will be useful and interesting both for students and teachers because it will allow to pay attention to the translation of text and correctly use the information that
should reflect the owner's inner world and his interest. And in the process of our work we will be able to improve knowledge of the English language.

The practical significance of our work lies in the fact that the results of this work can be used in class hours and parent meetings, as well as English lessons on the topic "Clothes".

I Labels on clothes

1. Some facts from history

The history of t-shirts begins in 1941 in America. Then America had to form a new more numerous army, which, of course, was required to provide clothes and food. And then a T-shirt was selected as the most comfortable clothes that can be worn when it is warm and when it is cold.

T-shirt is similar to the letter "T", and that is why, it was called "T-shirt", which in Russian means «Т-образная рубашка».[5]

Later a T-shirt comes to the USSR. At first in the Soviet Union T-shirts were part of a football uniform for fans and players. That's why the first inscriptions on the Soviet T-shirts were the names of the teams and the names of famous players.[6]

In general, the first labels on clothes appeared many centuries ago in Ancient Greece. Very often in fashion there were labels that were a part of the ornament.

Modern label it was started very simply: first inscription appeared on the workers' uniform, indicating their status in the workplace. In fact, it is unknown who was the first decided to write the labels on the clothes.[6]

It was the punks and hippy who made popular T-shirts with screaming inscriptions in the 1970. In that times using T-shirts you can express your feelings and attitudes towards something. A T-shirt could tell a lot about its owner.

Later there T-shirts with the slogans of a particular subculture. Emo, punks, goths, hippies, and many other of youth movements wore T-shirts with the inscription with a big pleasure [7]

Gradually, through T-shirts, people tried to stand out from the crowd and be original.

Once the technology full-color screen printing was developed. There was an opportunity to product application drawings and inscriptions on T-shirts. At first, T-shirts were printed with the names and pictures of famous actors and musicians. Soon people understood that it was a good idea to create business. Thus, the T-shirt was the main demand of the advertising market.

Nowadays T-shirts are also used for slogans. There is not too much changed. There is the same opinion that the T-shirt is not just ordinary thing from dozens of others, and this thing with its history, past and present, for which there is a great future![5]

2.1. A modern look on the label on the T-shirt

Labels in our time are very different. They can tell us a lot about a person and that this person does not understand what is written on it clothes.

Labels change with age. The child has got on his clothes funny phrase, a teenager has a label that contains various phrases, starting with motto, style and lifestyle. The adult people wear something for their age without obscene or they try to choose clothes without labels. But as a rule teenagers often look only at the beautiful style and fun characters.

In everyday life, the inscription on T-shirts brings a lot of positive emotions and impressions. For example, there are T-shirts for lovers with the label "He is mine", "She's with me" and "He's with me", "my sweetheart" [7].

In addition, T-shirts with foreign labels is not just a part of clothes. Funny T-shirts is a democratic and inexpensive way for everyone who wants to express his individuality and views on life.

That's why T-shirts with drawings and inscriptions in English are so popular today. To buy a modern T-shirt in our time is not difficult. You can not only buy a T-shirt with the inscription, but also enjoy the inscription in any language, not only English. It is very important for you to understand the meaning of the information, which is on your clothes, so not to seem uncultured and rude. Everyone should realize your appearance is the event on which you are clothed.

II The Clothes can say
2.1. Description of research

Studying labels on the students' clothes (mostly T-shirts) we built in the following way:

• We found students, wearing T-shirts that contain labels in English.

• We took photos of the most interesting labels

• We classified labels in different topics. [A2 ]

• We asked students questions [A1]

• We analyzed the responses of students in our school in a chaotic manner from 5 to grade 8. [A3 ]

According to our research 85% of students like to wear clothes with English labels. 15% don't like this idea. 60% of students have a lot of clothes with English labels. Students think that it's important to know the translation of labels, but only 27% pay attention on the meaning of labels before buying new things.

In the course of our studying there were found a lot of inscriptions with grammar mistakes. Only 31% of students answered that see the mistakes on their clothes but buy them because clothes is modern.

Very often there were met labels without any meaning. Only the set of the words.

The most popular labels are on the topic of "Designers and Brands", "Different".

According to our research we saw the problem and tried to offer teens to think before they buy another trendy thing with a strange text. We think that it's very important to note that we should be responsible for what we wearing.

It's silly to think on the fact that all around you don't know a foreign language and do not understand what is written on your clothes.

2.2. Recommendations

This research paper allowed us to make recommendations on choosing clothes with English labels. If you want to be cultural, comprehensively developed, educated, when choosing clothes with an English inscription consider some rules:

1. Translate the English label before you buy clothes. Do not choose clothes with labels that can discredit you in the eyes of public and friends.

2. Do not buy clothes with spelling or grammar errors.

3. Cultural man could not afford to put on a T-shirt with a meaningless set of words. If you are a positive person so the label should not be angry or ugly!

4. Follow the "dress code" to visit different types of public events. Maybe your clothes with the label will not be in harmony with the others.

5. You are not an advertising banner! Do not wear clothes with advertisement. If it is not part of your duties at work.

6. If your labels bring a smile, improve mood then use the whole imagination to select clothes. Indeed, the person should be fine in everything: the face, the clothes, the soul and the mind.

III Conclusion

In our country the first inscriptions on the T-shirts were the names of the football representatives, after which T-shirt was the main demand of the advertising market. In everyday life, the inscription on T-shirts became a tool to create fun for our friends. In addition, T-shirts with foreign labels are not just a part of clothes. Funny T-shirts is a democratic and inexpensive way for everyone who wants to express his individuality and views on life.

During the survey process the interest of students to the labels on their clothes has significantly increased. English vocabulary immediately became important and popular among teens.

This research paper allowed us to make recommendations on choosing clothes with inscriptions in English, and conclude that the clothes can really say about you a lot, including the fact that you don't know English.

We propose to use this research paper on classroom hours and parent meetings, as well as an on English lessons on the topic "Clothes".

We believe it's possible to continue our work from the point of psychology : to study how does the label on the T-shirt influence on the self-confidence and behavior in general.
