Все люди и звери: "Chang! Come an play your flute for us!"

Chang: It's time for bed, come with me to the field for the night, my sheep.

Emperor: How many sheep do you look after for me, Chang?

Chang: Twenty, sir.

Emperor: And how many sheep are in my field now?

Chang: I don't know, sir.

Emperor: Then I will tell you. Nineteen. Only nineteen, Chang!

Chang: … eighteen, nineteen…

Emperor: One of my sheep is lost! Why is it lost?

Chang: I don't know, sir…

Emperor: Then I will tell you. It is lost because you play your flute, and you don't look after my sheep! Give me that flute!

Chang: But, sir…

Emperor: Give me the flute, Chang!(broke the flute into two pieces)

Now go! And don't come back!

There are only nineteen sheep because I tricked Chang.

The people love that boy more than the love me!

But now he has gone! Now they will love me again!

Emperor: (he sees a golden bird)

It's the most beautiful bird in the world!

(the bird starts to sing)

Emperor: It sings the most beautiful song! I must have it in my palace. It will sing to me every day!

Emperor: My three sons! Come here! Listen to me very attentively!

Yesterday I saw the most beautiful golden bird. And it sang the most beautiful song. I want you to catch it for me. If you catch it, you can have… my silver sword!

Jing: (the eldest son) I will go first. I will catch the golden bird and then father's silver sword will be mine!

Lin:(second son is laughing) You may be the eldest, but you will not catch that bird, Jing. And then it will be our turn to try!

The old man: What is wrong, my boy? You look sad! Can I help you?

Chang: Yes, I am sad. I liked looking after the Emperor's sheep and playing my flute. He told me to go and broke my flute. Now I have nowhere to go.

The old man: Come to my house. I will make you a new flute.

(He is making new flute)

Here is your new flute, Chang. Try it!

(Chang started to play)

Chang: It sounds much better than my old one. It sounds-like magic! Thank you!

(People came to listen, animals listened too, the golden bird sang a beautiful song)

Jing: It must be here somewhere, I will find it!

(The old man in the garden)

Jing: I am looking for a golden bird. Have you seen it? I must find it, or my father will be angry.

The old man: Is you father often angry?

Jing: My father is the Emperor! An Emperor can be angry whenever he likes!

The old man: I understand. Yes, I can help you to find the golden bird but you must pay me. You must take a bag of jewels into the forest. You will hear the sound of a flute. Follow the sound and you will find the golden bird.

Jing: Thank you, sir. I will do as you say.

(I will pay a bag of jewels for the golden bird and give the bird to my father. I will have his silver sword!-go away)

(Jing heard the sound and followed the sound-несет корзину с драгоценностями)

(Chang is playing-вокруг него сидят звери и люди)

(the boy took the bag and gave the bird to Jing)

Jing: That was easy! (he is laughing) I will give the golden bird to my father-and he will give me the silver sword!

(they heard the flute again and the bird flew away)

Lin: Now it's my turn to try and catch the bird!

Jing: I did catch the bird! I put it under my arm! But it flew away! I gave a bag of jewels to that boy!

Lin: I'll find the boy with the flute. I'll find the bird! I'll take a bag of jewels, too!

(The boy is playing the flute and the bird is singing the song)

Lin: I'll give you these jewels. Will you give me that golden bird?

(The boy took the jewels and gave the bird)

Lin: That was easy! I'll give the golden bird to my father and he'll give me the silver sword!

(they heard the flute and the bird flew away)

Sang: It's my turn to try and catch the bird!

Lin: I did catch the bird! But when it heard the boy playing he flute, it flew away! I gave a bag of jewels to that boy!

Sang: I'll find the boy with the flute! I'll find the bird! I'll take a bag of jewels too!

(Sang went to the forest and heard the flute)

(The boy took the bag and gave the bird)

(Sang tied a piece of string round the golden bird's neck)

Sang: That was easy(he laughed) I'll give the golden bird to my father-and he will give me the silver sword.(they heard the flute and the bird flew away)

Emperor: Today is a happy day. Today the golden bird will be mine! Now, which of my sons caught it for me? Jing! Was it you?

Jing: No, father. I put the bird under my arm-but when it heard the flute, it flew away!

Emperor: Foolish boy!(shout) Lin! Did you catch the golden bird?

Lin: No, father! I put the bird in my basket-but when it heard the flute, it flew away!

Emperor: Foolish boy! I have two foolish sons! My little Sang! My youngest son! Did you catch the golden bird?

Sang: No, father. I tied the bird but…

Emperor: I know! I have three foolish sons. I must go and catch it myself!

(He heard the flute and saw the boy playing the flute)

The wolves saw the Emperor and made a circle round him, they snarled and showed their big, sharp teeth)

Emperor: Help me, Chang! I'm the Emperor and I'm in danger!

Chang: You are the Emperor but you are a greedy, jealous man. I'll help you but you must give half of your money to your people!

Emperor: Half of my money! But…

(the wolves is snarling)

All right, I'll do as you say! Now help me!

(Chang is playing, the wolves are going into the forest)

Emperor: Jing, Lin, Sang! I want you to give this gold to the people!

(They are carrying the gold)

All people: Three cheers for Chang! Three cheers for Chang and his magic flute!

Chang: Let's shared the gold! Let's share the jewels!

(Chang is playing the flute) All together: Hooray!
