Aim: By the end of the lesson the children will be able to describe a doll or the family members

Skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing

New Language: a blouse, a boot, clothes, a coat, a dress, to go for a walk, a hat, jeans, to put on, a shoe, shorts, a skirt, a sweater, trousers, a T-shirt, a uniform, warm.

Pupils stand near their seats, when they hear the part of the body they point to it

If a pupil point to the incorrect part of the body - he/she sits down. The winners are those who still stand at the end of the game

New Language and Grammar Presentation

Says: Ann's dolls have got a lot of clothes. What clothes have the dolls got?( a blouse, a boot, clothes, a coat, a dress, to go for a walk, a hat, jeans, to put on, a shoe, shorts, a skirt, a sweater, trousers, a T-shirt, a uniform, warm)

Read the words and translate them (p.9, ex.1)

Teacher uses the Power Point Presentation on topic Appearance and Clothes

Says: Pay attention to the word clothes - it is plural. Presents the grammar structures I'd like to buy.., Would you like to have…? When I go for a walk, I put on …. Introduce a doll named Jane to the class

Answer the questions What clothes would you like to buy for Jane to look nice? (p.10, ex.1.4), What clothes have you got? What clothes would you like to have? (p.10, ex.1.6, What clothes do you usually wear? (p.11, ex.4)

The pupils work in groups

Offers to make a survey What clothes would you like to have?

Ask each other and make up a list of the most popular clothes in the class

Pupils are allowed to move in the class to ask questions

Turns on the audio recording but first explains the task: Listen to the audio and then answer the question: What is Linda's favourite toy? (p.10, ex. 1.2)

Listen and follow the text

The pupils listen to the recording two times

Says: read the text and answer the question "What clothes has Jane got?" (p.10, ex. 1.2)

Read the text aloud and find the answer to the question

One of the pupils go to the blackboard and choose the appropriate pictures

Offers to play the game Word snake

Go to the blackboard in turns and circle the words on topic Clothes and put them down in their exercise-books

The words for the game were written on the blackboard beforehand

  1. The lesson was held in the 3rd form. The pupils are 9-10 years old. Leading learning styles are linguistic, visual, auditory, kinaesthetic and interpersonal. Pupils like the English lessons; they are very attentive and active. The teacher uses: Course-book English 3, V.P. Kuzovlev, N.M. Lapa, Moscow, Prosveshcheniye, 2013, Activity Book, audio discs, printable handouts …

  2. The following words and grammar structures were worked with in the lesson: a blouse, a boot, clothes, a coat, a dress, to go for a walk, a hat, jeans, to put on, a shoe, shorts, a skirt, a sweater, trousers, a T-shirt, a uniform, warm; I'd like to buy.., Would you like to have…? When I go for a walk, I put on…

  3. The presentation stage was organized with the help of the Power Point Presentation, course-book and a doll. The following techniques were used: using objects, drawings, pictures and illustrations, guessing from context, translation, surveys.

  4. In the practice stage the following activities were used: using puppets, word snake, matching words to pictures, answering the questions.

  5. The children liked all the activities, because the topic was interesting to them and the activities were different. Also they liked to work in pairs and in groups and played games with pleasure. Pupils enjoyed the lesson. Their happy smiles and the words Thank you! It was great! At the end of the lesson prove this. Pupils really learned the words and grammar structures as they demonstrated this on the following lesson.

  6. The pupils and the teacher were glad and pleased with the lesson.
