Урок по английскому языку в 9 классе (учитель Воробей Инна Витальевна)

Is cinema still important?

Цели урока:

  • Способствовать развитию умения говорить (монологическая речь), формировать лексические навыки говорения, способствовать формированию грамматических навыков по теме (словообразование, суффиксы -ment, -(t)ion); способствовать развитию умения планировать свое высказывание, развивать способности к логическому изложению содержания высказывания; способствовать формированию готовности к общению на разных уровнях.

Литература: учебник Л. М. Лапицкая, Н. В. Демченко «Английский язык», Мн. 2010;

Оборудование: мультимедийная установка, раздаточный материал, на доске материал для обсуждения (на карточках), картинки по теме, видеозапись «Индийский клип из фильма».

  • What do you think is cinema important? (yes, it is)

I absolutely agree that cinema is important today, but this question isn't easy. So we are to prove or disprove the importance of the cinema. And by the end of our lesson we are to answer the question: Is cinema still important?

  1. What comes to your mind when you hear the word "cinema"? (film, cartoons, popcorn, leisure, education, news, home, sofa, friends, free time).

  • What films or TV programs do you usually watch to educate yourselves?

  • Do you watch programs that entertain you?

  • What films do you watch for entertainment?



  1. Look at the screen, please. You see 2 columns. Read the first column, please. What part of speech are these words? (verbs) Now read the 2d column, please. What part of speech are these words? (nouns)

educate - education

enjoy - enjoyment

entertain - entertainment

imagine - imagination

What suffixes help to form nouns?

Who can make a conclusion? (Suffixes -ment and -(t)ion help to form nouns)

  1. Let's practice. You have the card, here are some words to which you should add suffixes and form nouns.

  • So let's check the results. Exchange your exercise-books. You may see the key in the screen. (movement, invention, improvement, settlement, agreement, achievement, equipment, graduation, development, payment, demonstration, exploration, application, navigation ).

  • Raise your hand who has no mistakes.

  • Raise your hand who has 1-2 mistakes.



  1. I have some colored papers for you. Choose any you like most of all.

  • Now turn over the papers, you may see number 1 or 2. Let's divide into 2 groups according to these numbers.

  • I'll give an extract from the text to each group. You should put its sentences in a logical order.

Then you'll read it and answer the questions. You may see the questions on the screen.

Like any other thing or invention cinema has its advantages and disadvantages.

  • So one group should prepare a list of advantages of the cinema. The other group should prepare the list of disadvantages of the cinema.

  • On the screen you may see some conversational phrases that you may use in you speech.

  1. What film genres do you know? (comedy, action, thriller)

  2. Now I'll be reading the description and you should guess what genre it is. On the blackboard you may see all the names of film genres (action, adventure, comedy, drama, horror, historical, musical, science fiction, war and anti-war films, westerns).

  • This genre include films that have high energy, lots of activity, scenes of races, fights, escapes and so on (action)

  • These films are exciting stories, they are very similar to the action films (adventure)

  • This genre include films that are full of humor, they make people laugh (comedy)

  • These films are serious presentations or stories with settings or life situations, realistic characters in conflict with something or themselves (drama)

  • This genre include films that show historical or imagined events, legendary or heroic figures (historical)

  • These films created to frighten and panic, they deal with people's fears (horror)

  • This genre includes films where music, dance and songs have a main part (musical)

  • These films are full of scientific developments, fantastic journeys to the earth or future time (science fiction)

  • This genre include films that show the reality of the horrors of war (war and anti-war films)

  • This genre is typical to America, all actions happen in the Wild West (westerns).



  1. Well done. Now I want you to report your opinions about genres you like or dislike. Take, please, this card on your desk, here is a help box and a model of report :(I prefer (like/enjoy) comic genre. Because films of this genre are full of laugh and fun. I don't like horror genre, because these films are frightful and awful). You're to write the report using the model.



  1. Good work. Please, look at the blackboard. Here are some cards, you should choose any number, then I'll read the statement and you should agree or disagree and prove your opinion.
