Star lifestyle. Meet Michael Jackson

Цель: развитие коммуникативных навыков, активизация лексики по темам "Music",

"Star lifestyle", развитие умения работать в команде, совершенствование навыков и умений самостоятельно находить необходимую информацию ( в том числе из интернет- ресурсов ), повышение мотивации к изучению английского языка.

Оборудование: плакаты с изображением М.Джексона, таблички с названиями средств

массовой информации и стран, из которых прибыли журналисты, магнитофон с кассета-

ми-записями песен, исполняемых М.Джексоном.

Участники пресс-конференции: популярный певец Майкл Джексон, пресс-секре-

тарь певца, журналисты из разных стран.

Ход пресс-конференции

1. Выступление пресс-секретаря.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Meet a great star - a brilliant singer and dancer, famous all over the world Michael Jack-

son. He is said to be eccentric and rarely seen in public.His album "Thriller" was the big-

gest selling LP of all time with sales of over 56 million. On his last European tour his 5

shows were attended by nearly 2,5 million people.

Michael is famous for keeping his distance from the crowds. In fact he rarely gives inter-

views. But today he is here with us. Meet Michael and give him a big round of applause.

OK. Now you are welcome to ask your questions. Please, don't forget to give your names

and let us know the name of your newspaper or magazine.

1. My name is Peter Pearson. I'm from "Daily Mirror", Great Britain.

Mr.Jackson, I know that you were born in a big family ( you were one of nine children).

Your father, if I'm not mistaken, was a crane driver from Indiana. So you have come a

long way from the two-bedroomed house in Indiana that you grew up in.

Will you kindly tell us about the place you live in now? What does your house look like?

M.Jackson. I live in California's Santa Ynez Valley in a $15m ranch. It's really a nice

place with 17 rooms downstairs and sixteen rooms upstairs. The house stands in 2,700

acres of ground. My property also includes guest houses, a golf course, a swimming pool,

tennis courts, gardens, forests, etc.

2. I'm from "Die Welt", Germany.My name's Helmut Schwarz.

My question is: Is that true that you are fond of animals? They say you have your private

zoo and stables. Is that true?

M.J. Oh,yes. Absolutely true. I adore animals. One of my best friends is a chimpanzee called Bubbles.

3. Sayako Mori, Japan, "Japan today".

You travel everywhere with Bubbles, your chimpanzee, they say.Very strange.

And it has been said that you take female hormones to make your voice higher.

Are these things facts or fiction?

M.J. No comments.

4. Ray Johnson, from "Washington Post", the USA.

I have read that your famous jerky dance style was caused when a tarantula bite affected

your nervous system. I don't believe it's true. Will you comment on it?

M.J. It's up to you to believe or not. As you like.

5) Issak Horowitz, Israel, "Jerusalem Times".

Do you have drug or alcohol problems?

M.J. No, I don't. I don't drink hard drinks. Never. And I don't smoke.Never in my life

have I tried any drugs.

5. Sandro Rodrigez, from Spain, "News from Madrid".

What about plastic surgery? It has been said that you have had your whole face changed

by plastic surgery.

M.J. That's true, but only partly true. I have had only two operations - one on my nose

and one on my chin. All the other stories are just media fantasies.

6. Aleksander Petrov, "Moscow News", Russia.

Did you really make $15m from advertising Pepsi-Cola? Do you drink Pepsi?

M.J. I never comment on my income.As for Pepsi, personally, I don't drink it.

7) Chen Min, China, "Beijing today".

A lot of people think your behaviour is rather eccentric. In public you often wear a face

mask. What for? And why do you sleep inside an oxygen capsule?

M.J. I believe an oxygen capsule will help me to live longer. And my face mask protects

me from germs.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, our time is up.We would like to thank Michael for his answers.

We all see that he looks very tired after his fantastic show today.

So, gentlemen, it's up to you to judge whether Michael Jackson is eccentric or just shy, as he

keeps saying.But we can't deny that Jacko is not a fool. He has created a brilliantly success-

ful image and he has learnt how to live with success. And if we were honest, wouldn't we

all like to be able to do the same?
