Text : '' Books in our life''

We cannot imagine our life without books. They play a very important role in our lives. There is practically no family that does not have books.

Books are our friends. We meet them when we are very small and cannot read, but we remember the pictures from them, we remember our mothers reading them to us. Besides, we learn very much from books.

In is true that books educate people in different spheres of life. They develop our imagination, make us think and analyze and they can help form our character and our world outlook. Moreover, books can help us to get self-educated and solve problems and can make our life more interesting.

Books not only teach us, they also stir our imagination, expend the boundaries of the familiar world, and fill our life with great expectations of joy and happiness. They give us a unique chance to link up with people of the past. Thanks to books we can talk to people who lived in different ages and countries. With their help we cannot only look into the past but also foresee the future. A book is a faithful and undemanding friend: it can be put aside and taken up at any moment. We can learn a lot of useful and interesting things about the world we live in.

There are different kinds of books. Children like to read fairy tales, fables and short stories. Many people are generally fond of historical novels, adventure books and science fiction or detectives. There are also many people who take a great interest in reading memoirs, atlases, encyclopaedias and textbooks.

Nowadays thousands of books are published every year in numerous publishing houses. There is no problem to find a good book. Several book-shops, libraries, reading halls and the internet are at reader's disposal.

A book.

A book, I think, is very like

A little golden door,

That takes me in to places

Where I've never been before.

It leads me into fairy land

Or countries strange and far.

And, best of all, the golden

Door always stands ajar.

Books play an important role in our life because they are our teachers and advisers. They teach us how to take the next step when we are in a difficult situation. They help to shape our life.
So, children, we have some guests at the lesson. Don't pay attention at them and work as usually.
Before working, let's find out what we are going to speak about, our associations. They will be our points of the plan to the topic.

  • Romances tend to be stories that principally focus on love and relationships, and may take as a subject a single love relationship, or an individual looking for love.

  • Westerns can be a branch of historical fiction but may more loosely deal with life in the wild American west, as it was settled.

  • Mysteries often have characters that investigate crimes or various puzzles.

  • Science fiction tends to use some scientific data as basis for stories, and might focus on things like apocalypse scenarios, future worlds, or space travel, to name just a few.

  • Fantasy may deal with various "unreal" or magical things, or things not possible in the real world, and may contain alternate worlds and/or mythical and made up creatures or peoples.

  • Thrillers are sometimes called spy thrillers and might have themes in which spies are involved in investigating various events, often on a global scale.

  • Horror may rely on elements like the supernatural, apocalyptic events, or in some cases exceptionally graphic cases of murder or mutilation caused by humans or other sources.

  • Historical fiction invents characters or deeds for a specific time period and may tell the story of that time period through fictional and non-fictional but fictionalized characters. A variation of this is the period novel, written either during or after a certain time period and particularly emphasizing what it was like to live in that era, with perhaps fictional characters as examples.

Books in our life": " Now we are ready to start! I give your 2 minutes to read the text. If you don't understand something, ask me, I'll help you.

Учитель ставит задачу: ''I read the beginning or the middle or the end of the sentences you have to look for (find) and read full sentences. For example:

They develop our imagination….

…self-educated and solve problems…

…about the world we live in."

" I speak Russian, you should find English equivalents":

Существует много видов книг.

Книга верный и неподкупный друг.

Они расширяют границы знакомого мира.

  1. Следующее задание - задать пять вопросов к тексту.

  1. Написать небольшое эссе на темы "Reading makes a full man" (Чтение делает человека полным) и "Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body» (Чтение для ума, что упражнение для тела)
