3. Speaking

T.: Do aliens exist?

P.1: We don't know, but it's possible.

P.2: No evidence for life has yet been found on any other planet except Earth. However.

P.3: This does not eliminate the possibility of extra-terrestrial life existing on planets we have never been to.

P.4: Many scientists take part in high-tech hunt for aliens.

T.: Let's remember the rules of the Reported Speech:

P.: R.S. is the exact meaning of what someone said.

T.: Which verbs do we use in order to report D.S into R.S.?

P.: We usually use such verbs as say and tell.

T.: What is the difference in use between this to verbs? Give me an example.

P.: After the verb say we use particle TO, after the verb tell we don't use particle to. (He said to me… / He told me…)

T.: How do we change the tenses in R.S.?

4. Writing - Grammar test

Reported Speech - I

Make new sentences from these ones using reported speech:

1. Charles said: "Ann has bought a new car."

2. He asked Jane: "Can you play the guitar?"

3. A stranger asked a passer-by: "Where is a bank?"

4. "Don't go near the fire", - she said to Ben.

5. Ann:" I once spent a summer here in this village".

Reported Speech - II

Define (определи) the sentences: Reported and Direct Speech

1. Charles said to me: ''Ann has bought a new car.''

2. She told me (that) she was happy.

What is the difference in use between verbs said and told?

5. Listening

In the 17th century rich women normally were taught at home by a tutor, they were taught subjects like Latin, French, Needlework and they were also taught how to look pretty and to play the piano and other instruments.

In the 20th century, when the 1st World War started, women could leave their underpaid jobs and could get jobs at a factory because all men had gone off to fight for the war, so women worked in factories, making armours for the war.

When the war was over, women had to go back to their old jobs and they didn't earn as much money as they were used to earn. Later a typewriter was invented and jobs as secretaries became available for women. Some women became teachers. Women were now allowed to vote and the first female presidents came. Some women were involved in politics.

To my thinking, the role of women has changed quite a lot. I think all changes that happened in the 20th century were good, because women became to be treated more equally and even more due to the processes of emancipation. So some women get the possibility to fly into space.

Рeople have dreamed of travelling in space for thousands of years. But it was not until 1957 that it became a reality. In 1963, Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman to fly in space. When she was very young, she developed an interest in parachuting. Through this skill, she was able to become a cosmonaut. She spent three days aboard the Vostok 6 in June 1963. In 2000, she received an award in London as the Greatest Woman Achiever of the Century.
