по английскому языку:

Do You Know English-Speaking Countries?

Задачи: - обобщить лингвострановедческий материал по указанной теме;

- углубить и расширить знания по данной теме;

- совершенствовать умения и навыки практического владения английским языком по данной теме по видам речевой деятельности: говорению, чтению, письму;

- повысить интерес к изучению иностранного языка.

Оборудование: жетоны в виде звездочек, флаги различных стран, наглядность на доске, фотографии с достопримечательностями различных стран.

Ход занятия.

Teacher: Good morning, boys and girls! We are sure you are full of energy and ready to have some fun. Do you like to play? That's very nice! Today we'll have an unusual lesson - a competition. Games, riddles and puzzles are waiting for you. The winner will be the team with the biggest number of the red stars.

I want to divide you into 3 teams. Let's start our competition and introduce our team to each other. (students from Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand) (детям заранее дается задание подготовить рассказ об англо-говорящей стране и сделать какой-нибудь отличительный знак)

OK. Everything is all right. I think all the students were the best and they get their first stars.

The next task is the following: answer the questions about English-speaking countries. If your answer is right you'll get a red star. Let's start.

1. What separates Great Britain from the continent? (the English Channel)

2. Where is the UK situated? (on the island)

3. How many countries does the UK consist of? (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland)

4. Who was the first American President? (George Washington)

5. What is the name given to the official residence of the President of the USA in Washington? (the White House)

6. What is the longest river in the USA? ( the Mississippi)

7. What are the highest mountains in the New Zealand? (the Southern Alps)

8. What is the capital of Canada? (Ottawa)

9. What is the famous sight in China? (the Chinese Wall)

And now we'll show you pictures with the sights of different countries and describe it and you are to guess what place of interest is.

1. It was founded in 1753. It has many departments. One of its most interesting sections is the National Gallery. (the British Museum)

2. It is a historic building. It was founded in 1050 as a monastery. The present building dates from about 1480. As the scene of coronation of English kings, it continues a tradition established by William the Conqueror who was crowned on Christmas Day 1066. Many great Englishmen are buried there. (Westminster Abbey)

3. It is the seat of the government of the USA. The corner stone of this building was laid by George Washington on September 18, 1793. It is in the centre of Washington and it's the highest point in the city. It is the seat of Congress. (the Capitol)
