  1. The beginning of the event

  • Hello boys and girls. I'm glad to see you today! Today we have a special lesson. We'll speak about Great Britain and play the game.

  • Who knows where Great Britain lays? (the north-western coastline of Europe) Please, look at the map.

  • The official name of GB is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. GB consists of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Who can go to the blackboard and find all parts of Great Britain?

  • Each of these countries has its flag and its symbol. The symbol of England is a "Red Rose". The symbol of Scotland is a thistle. The symbol of Wales is a daffodil. And the symbol of Northern Ireland is a shamrock.

  • There are many sights in GB. Students, what sights do you know? (the Tower bridge, the Tower castle, the British museum, the Tate Gallery, the Stonehenge, the Big Ben, the Westminster Abbey and castles)

  • Very well, students. You are clever boys and girls! And now let's play the game "Crosses and Zeroes". Let's divide into two groups and choose the captains.

  • Now, when we have two groups, look at the blackboard. You can see the table for our game. In your turn you can open one of squares of the table and have the task to do. Both groups do the task and we will decide what group is the best and put the zero or the cross into the square.

  • The first team will be "Crosses" and second will be "Zeroes". Are you ready to start the game? Let's start. "Crosses", please, open one of the squares.

2) Contests

1. Game "The Chain"

Each team has the word "Britain". You should make a chain of words. But remember: the last letter of the previous word should be the first letter of the next word.

Example: Britain - nature - egg …

The winner is the team that has the longest chain.

2. Game "Make up words"

The winner is the team that will be the best in making up words quickly and correctly.

3.Contest "The Best Reader" .

One person from each team should recite poems from the cards. They have got two minutes to be prepared. The person, who will be able to recite a poem fluently and correctly, is the winner.

  1. Every little girl would like to be

The fairy on the Christmas tree.

Up above the party, dressed in white,

Shining in the candle light.

Every little boy has lots of fun

With his trumpet and his gun.

Every little girl, you understand,

Is really the queen of the fairy land.

There is little secret she must keep

That she can fly when she's asleep.

  1. I think mice are rather nice.

Their tails are long, their faces are small,

They haven't got any chins at all.

Their ears are pink, their teeth are white.

They run about the house at night.

They nibble things they shouldn't touch

And no one seems to like them much.

But I think mice are very nice.

4. Contest "About GB"

Each team should create a short story about Great Britain (4-6 sentences). The captain will read it. The winner is the team that hasn't got any mistakes in the content.

5. Contest "The Rhyme"

Each team has got a card with one sentence. They should make up the second sentence which will rhyme with the first one.

(I pick up a nice red roses…)

Example: I'll go in the Westminster Abbey

And I'll meet there a little lady

6. Game "Invent words"

The teams should invent short words (as much as possible) from the name of the sightseeing.

Example: the Westminster Abbey
