Toccato

1: Dear teachers, friends and our guests! We begin our party devoted to the well-known English writer Oscar Wilde.

2: Do you know the full name of this writer?

1: I'm prepared to say that Oscar Fingal O'Flahertie Wills Wilde is his full name

2: How clever of you!

1: More than that I know that he was born in the family of a famous Irish doctor in Dublin. His mother had a literary talent

(cлайд 3)

2: Did she?

1: Yes, she did! She wrote poems and she knew many foreign languages. She influenced greatly her son's future literary career.

(слайд 4)

2: Oscar's parents gave him an excellent education. First he studied at a private school then at Trinity College in Dublin. After that he entered Oxford University. 1 Was he fond of anything except studying?

2 Yes, he was interested in classic languages and literature. Then he was fond of aesthetisism and soon he became a leader of this movement. He proclaimed ärt for art's sake" and "art above life"

1 In 1882 he made a tour to the USA lecturing on the aesthetic movement in England. After this trip Wilde lived in Paris and then came to London where he worked as a journalist.

(слайд 5)

2 During 1888-1898 he wrote and published many different works: two volumes of tales. Many of them have been translated into many languages including Russian

(слайд 6)

1 In his tales he glorifies the beauty of nature, the beauty of devoted love. He admires kindness and generosity.

(слайд 7)

2 He shows the contrast between wealth and poverty. In his tales he expresses his own sympathy for the poor laborers as well as his hatred to the rich who live at the expanse of the poor.

1 And now we'll show you a performance based on his fairy tale "The Happy Prince"
